Did you watch All of Us Strangers? I don’t often cry, never mind in public, but I saw it in the cinema with some friends not long after two of us both lost a parent and it was only going to go one way. But it’s a beautiful film, still! I don’t think there was a dry in the house regardless of whether anybody lost a parent or not.
A beautiful piece Keris. I’m moving back to my home town at the moment following my dad’s diagnosis. When people say nothing can prepare you, it’s really true. Being in my home town is important to me, and I see Dad everywhere I go even though he is still with us. The pain would be no less anywhere else, just buried ready to screech forward again. Reading your post soothed me. Finding others in grief has been my greatest comfort on substack so thank you xx
