Greater London House! I used to work there when I was at Maxwell Consumer Magazines working on Judge Dredd. There was a wedding magazine across the aisle that had models come in every month for casting, who were all very glamorous (unlike the artists bringing in their pages(.
According to legend, Big Bob Maxwell got in the lift at GLH and took an instant dislike to a guy already there. Maxwell demanded to know what the guy was doing there. “Working,” came the reply. Maxwell fired him and pulled out a wad of notes as redundancy. Guy accepted it happily as he was just a bike courier.
For months after we had bike couriers hanging around in the lift, hoping to bump into Maxwell.
I met a Beefeater in the Tower of London decades ago. I haven’t spent much time in England since COVID because we don’t want to be in airplanes anymore.
Looking for the cat statues is a fab idea. You've given me inspiration for when I'm down there later in the year.
Completely agree about the day trips to London, I went for my 12th birthday present with my family. It was Feb but remember being up in what seemed like the middle of the night to get the train. Saw so much including the Tower
I have that recurring elevator dream too and the elevator often goes fully sideways as well. So disorienting. I've always thought I got it from reading Roald Dahl - esp Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator
Oh weird! I think mine was just an alternative to the jumping in the air and not being able to get down dream. I haven’t had either of them for ages, thank god.
Every other Primary 7 before mine had a trip to Edinburgh, Monday to Friday, all very exciting. We didn't get it which was devastating at the time.
Instead we went to Rosemarkie Beach, now my favourite place in the world on a sunny and hot Monday in June. It was gorgeous.
My nephew, who has just left primary school (how the hell did he get that old?) went from Livingston to London for the day to visit Parliament a few weeks ago. He really enjoyed himself despite setting off at 5:30 am and coming back at 11 pm.
I'm not sure about animal statues, but nothing can beat the cow parade in Edinburgh about 15 years ago where highly decorated fibreglass cows graced the streets. Actually not about 15 yeas ago - just googled - it was 2006. We stalked all of them during a Summer of Great Fun.

Oh no way! It’s such a cool building.
