These weekend posts, a glimpse behind the scenes as I write a new novel or three, are for paid subscribers. If you are a paid subscriber - thank you! I appreciate it. If not, I would love it if you would consider upgrading. It costs just over £1 a week (less if you go for an annual subscription!)
If you would like a paid sub but can’t afford one right now, email me and I’ll sort you out.
*No, not Bros’s 1988 tour - I know you were thinking it - but the last week before my (latest) deadline.
SUNDAY
I’ve added Sunday this week, because I came up with a hack that’s really helping me. Since rediscovering Pacemaker, I’ve been updating my wordcount at the end of the day and then waiting until the following morning to see that day’s target. But! I forgot to update yesterday, so I updated this morning, refreshed the page, and saw all the targets change, i.e. get smaller. So then I wrote a bit more (to hit a nice round number), updated and refreshed again and… smaller! wordcount! targets! It was great.
This is less of a hack and more of exactly the reason I started using Pacemaker in the first place, but apparently I need constant reminders.
