These weekend posts, a glimpse behind the scenes as I write a new book (or three) are for paid subscribers. A paid sub costs just over £1 a week (less if you go for an annual subscription!) and I’m thisclose to being a Substack Bestseller. (I would bloody love that.)
If you would like a paid sub but can’t afford one, email me and I’ll sort you out.
Hello!
This week has mostly been about avoidance.
I finally moved my office around. Previously, my desk was against the left wall and whenever I pictured myself in my office, it felt a bit like this
Not conducive to creativity.
So I moved my desk so it’s in front of the window (it has a shelf, so it doesn’t really work and I want a new desk, but I need to make sure I actually work in the office before I shell out on one).
And then I built the chair that I bought about a month ago and has been lying on the carpet in pieces, mocking me. It took about five minutes. I’ve put some pictures up, including a Styles tour poster I love and the (rubbish) Eras poster the cinema gave me. There’s a photo of me on there too and Joe asked me why.
That’s not actually why. I just like it and stuck it up there out of the way when I was unpacking after the move.
So now I have no more excuses and I have to get back to work. (On Monday.) But how? Fortunately, a couple of brilliant writers have posted about exactly this in the last few days.
