These weekend posts, a glimpse behind the scenes as I write a new novel, are for paid subscribers. If you are a paid subscriber - thank you! I appreciate it. If not, I would love it if you would consider upgrading. It costs just over £1 a week (less if you go for an annual subscription!)

If you would like a paid sub but can’t afford one right now, email me and I’ll sort you out.

I started the week full of optimism. I was going to READ ALL THE THINGS, but gently, being kind to myself. And then I just kind of flumped on the sofa and spent way too long faffing on social media (including a new-ish one: I’m back on Bluesky. Are you there? Follow me.)

I did read some of the things, including the novel that’s out on sub and which I had decided was rubbish (it’s not), the latest Emily Henry, and I finally started Caroline Donahue’s The Author’s Journey, which was instantly inspiring.

Also got called out on Facebook:

May be an image of text that says "How brain workles Soup *static noises -what -whatistas is task ·soup Squizzly -many task -oops bendy wher Crumbly -see outlines of task butit'sa a sandcastle -no fine details -heck it fell into the moat Full of Yarn -I SEE THE COSMOS task task task task tasktask task -oops should some point On Rails -TASK only -sleep?
