Hi! I’m Keris. I’m an author writing about writing and books and music and life, and the last song I listened to was Please Please Please by Sabrina Carpenter, because I remain obsessed.
At the end of last week, I made a flying visit to London for a good friend’s book launch. I had a lovely time, both at the party (although it’s a while since I’ve been to a party and I learned that I am awkward at parties) and wandering around Soho the following morning.
Since getting back I’ve been a bit feeble. I’ve got so much to do, but very little motivation. I’m trying to pace myself, but it’s hard. So instead I read Jarvis Cocker’s book, Good Pop, Bad Pop.
It counts as research because it’s similar to what I want to do with Mum’s Suitcase (no, I still haven’t posted anything properly - I’ve posted a few things on Notes, but haven’t had time), but also it was just a really entertaining read. I love Jarvis.
Also today, my 19yo turned 20, which is kind of blowing my mind. TWENTY. He was JUST BORN.
I watched the England vs Portugal Euro 2004 game in hospital and then dreamt Cristiano Ronaldo was jumping on my stomach in his golden boots, but it was actually my first contraction. My first thought on startling awake was ‘Oh no. I can’t do this.’ But I did. (I didn’t actually have a choice.) Wild that Ronaldo is still playing in the current Euros.
The now 20yo is a total gem and last night we went out to toast the end of his teens and on the way home saw three foxes and some sleepy goslings. I stayed up til 1am to finish Jarvis and then dreamt I was at my own book launch party but I missed most of it - and didn’t get to dance - because I was cleaning a filthy toilet. I don’t know what this means, but I don’t imagine it’s anything good.
What is good, though, is this book by Laura Dockrill. Loving it.
A friend recommended this post from Nathan Bransford about how every artist needs “racoon phases” in which you collect inspiration even when you don’t know where it’s going yet. This is the phase I look forward to when I’m (desperately) trying to finish a project. But then I am more racoon than woman.
And now I must try to finish yesterday’s To Do list (today!) before watching the England game with the 15yo.

I didn't know I was a raccoon, but it fits. Happy 20th Birthday to your Harry!
